  • 1/2 cup cold butter or vegan butter
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tsp milk (for top)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or vegan butter
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, sea salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles peas.
  4. Stir in milk and molasses until fully combined.
  5. Form the dough into a circle about ¾ inch thick on a cookie sheet.
  6. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For icing (optional), whisk powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and milk together; drizzle over warm scones.
